For breast reduction surgery at Portland’s Waldorf Center, Dr. Kathleen Waldorf most commonly use the “anchor” method, which involves making incisions around the areola and vertically on the lower part of the breast. This results in an anchor-shaped scar, which will gradually become less noticeable over the year following the surgery. Some patients need only an incision around the areola to provide the results they are seeking.

YOUR BREAST REDUCTION SURGERY

In a breast reduction, Dr. Waldorf removes fatty and glandular breast tissue, as well as excess skin, so that the breasts are more proportionate with your body. This typically results in a more lifted breast shape and nipple position. The areolas (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) may be resized and reshaped as well.

Breast reduction is a highly customized procedure based on your anatomy and how you wish to look. Incisions are usually made around the areola and vertically on the lower portion of the breast. This does result in scars, but they will fade and soften/flatten within a year. Dr. Waldorf also does whatever she can to retain as much nipple sensation as possible.

The surgery usually takes one to two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. After recovery from the anesthesia, you can return home to be cared for by family or friends.
