Semaglutide is an ingredient in the medication Wegovy^®, an FDA-approved treatment for long-term weight management. Known as a “glucagon-like peptide receptor agonist,” Semaglutide is an appetite suppressant. Once injected, Semaglutide works by mimicking a hormone that is released by the body when you are eating. This hormone, known as GLP-1, triggers insulin production, which in turn lowers blood sugar levels. In significant enough amounts, GLP-1 also triggers a feeling of “fullness” in the brain.
