NEOGRAFT® HAIR RESTORATION IN PORTLAND
CORRECT HAIR LOSS WITH THIS SOPHISTICATED TRANSPLANT METHOD
The Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery is pleased to be the premiere NeoGraft® provider for patients seeking hair restoration in Portland, Oregon. This minimally invasive treatment is a breakthrough in hair restoration for men and women who want to restore their own hair to achieve a fuller, healthier head without an unsightly linear scar.*
HAIR RESTORATION: STAGES OF HAIR GROWTH
There are around one million hair follicles on the head alone. The follicle is inside the skin itself and anchors the hair there. The shaft is the visible part of the hair. Made of keratin, a protein also found in fingernails and skin, the shaft extends above the skin’s surface. Growth occurs in a cyclical fashion and can be divided into three stages: anagen (growing phase), catagen (transition phase), and telogen (resting/shedding phase). Note that some medical practitioners split resting and shedding into two separate, but related phases.
Scalp follicles spend around two to seven years in the active, growing phase, when cells multiply quickly and create strands of hair that increase in length over time. During the following transition phase, which lasts around two weeks, formerly active hair follicles shrink, detaching hairs from their blood supply. Hair growth slows and stops. Next, in the resting phase, each follicle “recharges,” preparing for new hair growth that ultimately forces the old hair out. Existing hairs typically remain in place in their resting follicles until they are shed.
Superior Results: More natural-looking hair, short or long, for both men and women.
Advanced Technology: Automated technology and the least-invasive procedure for hair transplantation.
Gentle: Little to no discomfort. No scalpel incision, no staples, no linear scar.
Effective: Less activity restrictions than traditional strip methods.
Discreet: Patients can typically go back to work the next day.
IS HAIR RESTORATION NECESSARY?
There are many reasons a person—man or woman—may notice more hair than usual falling out. Dietary changes, certain medical conditions and treatments, stress, and even hairstyles that pull the hair tight can cause loss. In general, however, hair restoration treatments are not needed in any of these cases, as natural growth resumes once body or scalp conditions return to normal.
Androgenic alopecia (also known as male pattern baldness or female pattern hair loss) is a different case: Genetics trigger the gradual decline of follicle function, leading to a fairly predictable pattern of thinning and balding on the scalp. Fortunately, cosmetic hair restoration can successfully treat this condition.

BEARD HAIR RESTORATION
Beards are often deemed to be a symbol of strength and confidence. Not every man is able to grow thick facial hair. Limited growth is often the result of genetics, hormones, or lifestyle factors. The beard hair restoration procedure involves permanently improving bald, thin, or patchy beards by transplanting hairs from elsewhere on the body.
This hair restoration technique allows men to achieve the style of beard and sideburns they’ve always wanted with natural-looking overall results that match well with existing hair texture and color. In a hair restoration procedure, you can determine how much hair you wish to add, as well as where it should grow. Thick hair follicles are typically extracted from the back of the head.
EYEBROW HAIR RESTORATION
Hair restoration isn’t just for your scalp, beard, or sideburns. You can also permanently enhance the appearance of your eyebrows with this technique. Eyebrows add character to the face, adding definition and expression. As a facial feature, eyebrows are also receiving more attention thanks to the influence of supermodels and Instagram culture.
Self-conscious about essentially non-existent brows? Many people dislike the natural shape, arch, or thickness of their eyebrows. If your eyebrows were overtweezed or overwaxed when you were younger, that history can lead to sparse or balding sections today. Genetics can also play a role in eyebrow thickness (or thinness). The process of eyebrow restoration works in a similar way to other forms of hair restoration, with active hair follicles being removed from another area of the body and inserted into the brows.
YOUR NEOGRAFT® HAIR RESTORATION PROCEDURE
You can expect your hair restoration procedure to take between three and eight hours, depending on the number of grafts harvested. Once local anesthetic has been administered, the procedure will begin.
Step One: Donor Hair Removal
The NeoGraft® hair restoration procedure begins with hair being removed from the donor area in the back of your head, where your hair is genetically programmed to resist the thinning effects of testosterone.
Step Two: Dissection of the Follicular Units
Each graft is extracted with the same consistency in diameter and length, resulting in a dramatically increased take rate.
Step Three: Creation of the Recipient Sites
The hair transplant surgeon creates recipient sites in the proper angle, direction, and orientation according to the artistic hair transplant plan designed specifically for you.
Step Four: Placement of the Hair Graft
The follicular units are then carefully separated by size. Grafts are transplanted into the balding and thinning areas of your scalp. Each graft is meticulously harvested as it naturally occurs and implanted individually.

RECOVERING FROM HAIR RESTORATION IN PORTLAND, OR
There is minimal care required following your procedure. You may be given a shampoo and/or topical antiseptic to use after your hair restoration session. Because there is no incision in the donor area, there is no need to remove any sutures. There’s typically very little pain or discomfort after the procedure.* You may experience a slight amount of drainage for the first day after your procedure, but this is minimal. It is best to refrain from strenuous activity for the first week or so.
We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Patients in Vancouver, Salem, and beyond can call 503-646-0101 or 1-800-310-7901, or schedule a consultation online.
