LASER HAIR REMOVAL IN PORTLAND, OR
GET LONG-LASTING RESULTS WITHOUT SHAVING OR WAXING
Laser hair removal at Portland’s Waldorf Center is a great option for people who are tired of shaving, waxing, or tweezing to remove unwanted hair. This is a very popular and effective method that patients enjoy because the results last well beyond other treatment options. Laser energy targets the pigment of the hair in the follicle, heating and damaging it, so hair does not easily grow back.

Hair growth occurs in cycles, so treatments are spaced at least six weeks apart to address different productive hair follicles. Laser hair removal effectively slows hair growth, but it doesn’t guarantee permanent hair removal. In some cases, periodic maintenance treatments may be needed. Your clinician may recommend four to six treatments to achieve the hair reduction results you desire.* Schedule an appointment today to discuss laser hair removal in Portland at The Waldorf Center for Plastic Surgery, serving Salem, Vancouver, and all of Oregon. Call (503)-646-0101 or 1-800-310-7901 or contact us online.
YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL CONSULTATION
Every patient should be well informed about laser hair removal when considering the procedure. The Waldorf Center team believes strongly in educating patients on what to expect before, during, and after the treatment so they can choose it after consideration, as well as prepare in order to get the most out of their results. A member of the team will meet with you to listen to your concerns and discuss options, as well as other details, including laser hair removal cost.
YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL PROCEDURE IN PORTLAND
Preparation for Treatment
To prepare for laser hair removal, The Waldorf Center asks that you:
Shave the targeted area clean prior to your appointment.
Keep from plucking or waxing prior to the treatment session. This is because any damage to the follicle can reduce how effective the laser is.
Refrain from tanning, including self-tanners, two weeks prior to the treatment. The pigment in darker skin can attract the laser energy intended for the pigment in the follicle, leading to unwanted results.
The Treatment
The equipment we use for laser hair removal at The Waldorf Center is the Cynosure Elite YAG Laser: fast, safe for all skin types, and capable of treating even sensitive areas. Since the laser energy targets pigment in the follicle, the treatment is most effective on darker hair. Unfortunately, light or gray hair cannot be effectively treated with a laser—no matter what the energy—because the laser cannot “see” the pigment.
Laser hair removal itself can feel like small rubber band snaps, and is performed without numbing cream. A Zimmer air cooler is used to alleviate some of the heat from the laser to make the treatment more comfortable. A laser hair removal treatment is well tolerated and requires no downtime afterward. This procedure is fairly quick and can be done on your lunch hour. Laser hair removal is well suited for the face (though not around the eyes), arms and underarms, shoulders, chest, back, belly, bikini line, and legs.

RECOVERING AFTER LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Mild redness of treated follicles may occur. This redness typically resolves over a few days after the treatment, which is also when the damaged hairs will fall out of their follicles. It is important to practice safe sun protection after this or any light or laser treatment of the skin.
MORE LASER HAIR REMOVAL DETAILS
As noted above, multiple treatment sessions may be necessary due to natural hair growth cycles that impact the effectiveness of the laser. The follicle-damaging energy only works on hairs that are in their active growth phase at the time of the procedure. About 85 percent of hairs on the head and body are in this phase at any one time. A series of treatments spaced a certain time apart will ultimately impact most or all of the hairs in a particular region.
Special Financing Available

WHAT TREATMENTS COMPLEMENT LASER HAIR REMOVAL AT THE WALDORF CENTER?
Patients who choose laser hair removal in Portland may also want to consider other treatments to best show off their bare skin. Sciton® Halo™ promotes natural healing processes on the face to even out texture and tone, as well as tighten loose areas. A chemical peel or microdermabrasion session removes the outermost layer of skin to put the spotlight on the younger, smoother layer waiting beneath.*
During your Waldorf Center hair removal consultation, you can discuss how compatible various treatments are with the laser procedure to create a proposed schedule designed to maximize results while minimizing risk.
