Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)
As we begin to age, our skin begins to loosen and sag. When this occurs we see prominent wrinkles around the nose and mouth, and the development of jowls and a loose neck. The fat seen in a young face also begins to thin and settle lower in the face. This process is sometimes accelerated by heredity, environmental exposure, and prolonged sun damage.
The appearance of the aging lower face and neck can be improved with a face lift procedure. By making incisions around the ear and into the hairline, a skilled plastic surgeon can access the fat, muscles and soft tissue in order to reposition them in a more youthful position. The skin is then gently smoothed and tightened.
After a facelift, a person should expect to relax for 10-14 days to allow healing. Makeup can be applied at that time and people generally feel comfortable appearing in public.
