Post-Bariatric
Body Contouring after Massive Weight Loss
The body changes dramatically after losing a significant amount of weight. In general, a person feels much better, and is happy with the improvement to their health.
At the Waldorf Center, we frequently see people who have lost a lot of weight either after bariatric surgery or diet and exercise. The most common complaint we hear from people, after massive weight loss, is that they are left with "extra skin". Skin loses some of its elasticity with obesity; therefore, it frequently does not retract completely after weight loss.
The skin laxity can potentially be seen anywhere on the body. This means people are often candidates for any number of procedures, depending on their specific body shape. The most common procedures that people seek after massive weight loss are breast lift, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), body lift, arm lift, thigh lift, and face lift.
Because a person might have several areas of concern, their body contouring process, is often staged. This means that a couple of areas might be addressed during one operation, and then others during another operation. For example, a person might undergo a breast lift and lower body lift one day, and then have his or her arms and thighs lifted on another day, after the first surgical sites have healed. The staging of body contouring is done for patient safety.
