Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
The shape of the upper arm is commonly affected by aging and fluctuations in weight. With time or after weight loss, many people notice loose extra skin and fat in their upper arms. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, allows a skilled plastic surgeon to remove the excess fat and skin to create a smoother contour to the upper arm.
Liposuction is often performed if there is excess fat to be removed in the upper arm. Then an incision is designed in the least noticeable area of the arm. This incision travels from the elbow to the armpit, and is used to remove all of the excess skin and fat to tighten the upper arm.
Compression garments are worn after the procedure to aid with swelling and to improve the final result. In addition, the patient keeps his or her arms elevated for a few days to help with swelling. Recovery time involves limiting activity with the arms for a few weeks to allow adequate healing.
